At JFX Hosted powered by Just Fix It , we prioritize sustainability by hosting our servers in Equinix facilities, which are enhancing their environmental sustainability. Equinix has announced a major step by transitioning their data centers’ operating temperature and humidity ranges to improve cooling efficiency.

What Changes Are Being Made?

Equinix is aligning their service level agreements (SLAs) with ASHRAE A1 Allowable (A1A) conditions. Since 2011, IT equipment manufacturers around the world have widely adopted the ASHRAE A1 Allowable (A1A), an internationally recognized standard that defines the operating conditions for mission-critical IT equipment. This internationally recognized standard will enable Equinix to run their facilities warmer and leverage free cooling, reducing the need for energy-intensive cooling systems. The new target operating temperature in the intake aisle will be 27°C (80.6°F), with a humidity range of 8% to 80%.

Why These Changes?

The primary goal is to increase energy efficiency in Equinix’s data centers, directly reducing Scope 2 and Scope 3 carbon emissions. This is a critical step towards Equinix’s commitment to becoming climate neutral by 2030. The changes will help improve overall Power Utilization Effectiveness (PUE) and ensure compliance with current and future regulations.

Key Benefits

  • Reduction in Scope 3 Carbon Emissions: Hosting with Equinix will lower the carbon footprint associated with your deployments.
  • Increased Energy Efficiency: More efficient cooling leads to less energy consumption.
  • Improved PUE: Better Power Utilization Effectiveness means more efficient data center operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Aligning with global standards and regulations, particularly in regions like the EU, Germany, Singapore, and the Netherlands.

Global Impact and Recognition

Equinix’s sustainability initiatives have earned significant recognition. They have committed to science-based targets for reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 and have increased their global renewable energy coverage to 95%. Since 2011, their efficiency programs have helped avoid over 260,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. All new data center builds target LEED Silver or equivalent certification.

Looking Ahead

Equinix’s goal is to achieve 100% green energy usage.
